This is an article I read from kiwibox, and with permission and acknowledgement, I will put it here, so peoples can read it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All of us, even those of us who do not exercise regularly, need a certain level of flexibility and mobility. But how flexible should we be? Most of us already have adequate flexibility allowing us move around and perform our daily activities with ease, and room to spare for life's little accidents (e.g., slipping on ice, tripping, etc.). However, this varies from person to person and some times we may need to develop a little more flexibility. Luckily, flexibility is the easiest bio-motor ability to improve.
Here are some tips for improving your flexibility using a method just about everyone knows and can do by themselves, "static stretching."
Always warm up before stretching by either doing some light exercise or by taking a hot shower or bath.
Stretch a muscle until the point of mild discomfort.
Do not bounce or jerk while you stretch.
Hold the stretch for 20-60 seconds.
Relax your entire body and breathe as you stretch.
Stretch the same muscle every other day. Your muscles and connective tissues need time to heal from the stretching.
Spend no more than 2-3 minutes stretching a muscle.
Follow these tips and you will see dramatic results in just a few weeks.
